The Trybe

The Trybe consists of 4 principal musicians, 1 piper and 3 percussion players, who are supplemented by additional players as  required. Depending on the performance they will employ additional musicians, dancers or weapon and armoury specialists.

The Trybe

They have performed in theatre and indoor concert venues such as the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, The Lemon Tree Aberdeen and the Caird Hall Dundee. Outdoor events include appearances at Aberdeen Tartan Day, Arbroath SeaFest, Peterhead Scottish Week, the Golf Open Championship at Carnoustie, Yellows on the Broom Festival as well as corporate functions and historical pageants. The band have already been invited to perform at the prestigous Prague Festival and at festivals in Hannover and Berlin.

The approach from the band is full on pipes and drums, we like to think we have gone back to the old style of using the pipes and drums rather than the very regimented style seen today.

We don't just offer a musical performance though as some of our members are well versed in Scottish history and can give talks regarding the traditional Scottish weapons such as the baskethilt and claymore.

The group encourage audience participation whether dancing along to the music or getting dressed in the old Scottish plaid and handling the weapons.

Three Guys Swinging

Neil Connon - Guitar and Lead Vocal

Neil has played guitar and sung for many years and has followed as many musical genres during this time. Not surprisingly his interpretation of swing includes many jazz and rock influences but the aim is to provide a simple interpretation of wonderful timeless melodies, with the occasional new twist.
Three Guys Swinging
Lindsay Cowie - Bass and Backing Vocal

Lindsay has been playing bass since his teenage years. His musical experience has evolved through rock and pop and he has provided his own style of rhythmic, melodic bass line for numerous bands and musical projects over the course of his musical career. He is really thrilled to have found his true calling in the laid-back land of swing.

David Robinson - Drums and Lead Vocal

Dave started playing the drums at the age of eight. His teacher, Terry Turner, was a student of London based Max Abrahams and Dave spent his early years playing in the big band swing style. Like Neil, Dave played blues, pop and rock during his playing career but the return to swing music now has allowed him to draw on his early years of swing drumming with a passion.
