John Conteh
Former professional boxer
John was born in Liverpool in May 1951, one of TEN children. He was introduced to boxing at the age of 11 when he joined Kirkby amateur boxing club. He boxed as a schooloy and a junior with varied success.
In 1969, at the age of 18, he committed himself to senior boxing full time. The following year he won the ABA middleweight title AND the gold medal at middleweight in the Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh. This was quickly followed by the ABA Light-Heavyweight title in 1971 in Wembley Arena. London was calling and he turned professional in 1971 with George Francis as manager, moving down from his beloved Liverpool.
He won the European Light-heavyweight title at Wembley Arena in 1973 defeating Rudiger Schmidtke and in the same year he defeated Chris Finnegan to win the British and Commonwealth titles. The following year he defeated Jorge Ahumada at Wembley to become the World Light Heavyweight Champion. He successfully defended his title three times before retiring in 1980 with a fantastic record of 34 wins and one draw from a career total of 39 flights!!
Since his retirement, John has become a highly accomplished and popular after dinner speaker. He also entered the world of acting, appearing in many plays including a six month run in the West End with the play 'Blood Brothers'. Always popular, the happy-go-lucky scouser can't believe he gets very well paid for doing something that comes very natural to him, he talks and talks, and talks!!!!
Jim’s successful defences of his title were against Texan Roberto Vasquez, Irelands Charlie Nash, Howard Davis and Sean O’Grady in 1980. Jim lost his title in a bout in Wembley Arena on June 20th 1981 when Nicaraguan Alexis Arguello won the title on a point’s decision. This fight was at the time the richest in British Boxing history. At the age of 32 Jim decided it was the right time to hang up his gloves and retired from the sport.
As well as being kept busy on the after dinner speaking
circuit Jim also very well known as the face of Sky televisions boxing
presentations and travels the world as the summariser for all the main
Championship and title bouts. Jim is also a prominent business man in
his beloved Glasgow.
Craigie Vietch

He is certainly a man of letters, being a former East of Scotland Scrabble Champion!!!! But his main educational claim to fame is that he once shared an ink-well at school with Sean Connery, in true journalistic style he insists he taught 007 all he knows about acting and elocution!
Craigie was principal speaker when Sean was honoured with the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh, over the years Craigie has told so many stories about Connery that he is now beginning to believe them! Would a journalist lie?? Craigie has won no fewer than FOUR of the prestigious “Wits Dinner Awards” including “The Jackie Blanchflower Memorial Trophy”.
Patrice
Comedian
Patrice, also known as the ‘Hairdresser to the stars’ and ‘Cock o the North’ has become one of the top after dinner speakers in Scotland. Against his mothers advice he gave up a lucrative hairdressing career some five years ago to sign up for commercial radio station Northsound. Since then he has toured the country with his unmistakable brand of camp humour. On the back of his popularity Patrice has released several books and CDs, and has just finished a spell of work with Grampian Television. As well as his comedy talent Patrice is an accomplished singer and violinist. “Whenever I play the violin people clap their hands” says the camp crimper, “Over their ears”.
